The project group SmarterPhones deals with context-aware resource allocation in mobile networks. We currently focus on segmented video streaming in multiple qualities, which allows an intelligent scheduler to decide on when and at what quality to deliver video segments to the users. These decisions are made based on e.g. current and predicted user position as well as basestation capacity
The first project group, SmarterPhones I, ran from April 2012 to April 2013 and resulted in a WiFi-based testbed in which moving users and their behavior can be emulated. In parallel, the scenarios can also be evaluated via simulation.
The second project group, SmarterPhones II, started in April 2013 and will focus on the implementation of smarter scheduling algorithms and the integration of prediction into the scheduling decisions.
