Marco Platzner will give a keynote address about “Extending Operating System Services Over FPGAs” at the upcoming ReCoSoC symposium 2017, held from July 12-14 in Madrid, Spain. The keynote will cover past and recent research to provide expressive, software-centric programming abstractions for reconfigurable computers and present the ReconOS operating system developed at the Computer Engineering Group of Paderborn University. ReconOS offers a unified multi-threaded programming model for hardware and software threads. By semantically integrating hardware accelerators into a standard operating system environment, ReconOS supports a structured application development process, rapid design space exploration, and the creation of autonomous hybrid multi-core systems.
